Tech IT Developments

This was our major project of 2020. We helped create a Computer Centre and Computer and Language Training at the Carmel Academy. The Apostolic Carmel Academy is a Teaching Facility for young girls created by the Convent of Our lady of Lanka in Acthuvely (near Jaffna in the North of Sri Lanka). They asked for our help to create this facility. We made three donations totalling £3,428:  

SLCF has partered with a local IT partner in Sri Lanka to enable smart classrooms, for schools in Sri Lanka who are in much need of IT resources like computers, and softwares to enable their digital education.

SLCF provided funds to buy a Smart TV to support the digital journey for the students at Atchuvely.

SLCF Supported Innovative English Language Learning Centre in Batticaloa by to donating a projector and laptop for English language teaching.

SLCF with the support of BQu Services provided the resources, support and connectivity to support online learning.

A project to support the students of Atchuvely, Camel Academy by providing computers and by sponsoring children to undertake computer programes.

  • Project objective – To support computer training courses and bridge the digital disparities between the communities
  • Project budget – Rs. 80,000
  • Project Benefits – To bridge the gap in education and provide equal online access to under privileges students, to drive innovation and entrepreneurship, to help students to navigate digital learning platforms and finally to enhance business opportunities

SLCF successfully installed its 5 th Laptop centre in Nuwaraeliya Lindula town to bridge digital disparity between developed and developing cities in Sri Lanka. Primary objective is to help the school by providing computers to aid their learning and minimise digital gaps in education, and business. This centre will benefit about 2,000 primary and secondary grades and many more new grades to come.
A projector was also provided to the school to cover many classes with students at once, so that many students will benefit at once.

SLCF partnered this digital initiative with Tech For Kids coding program providers to encourage future generations to be equipped with the right skills and requirements to be programmers.

  • Project objective – Provided two laptops for 35 school going girls age between 10-16 to get access to on line resources and SLCF education portal for education and bridge digital disparities between communities
  • Project budget – Rs 150,000 A clear completion dates – March 2019
  • Project Benefits – Education support, access to On-Line study materials and SLCF Moodle access for school going children
